The Harrison Military Road in the War of 1812

Dr. Bruce Bowlus will present a program on the significance of Harrison’s Trail leading up to and during the War of 1812.
The War of 1812 was caused, in part, by tensions that arose between a steady stream of white settlers moving into the southern Great Lakes region on one hand and native peoples and their British supporters on the other.  The Harrison Trail, which passed through present-day Tiffin, became central to General William Henry Harrison’s successful strategy to neutralize this threat.  The presentation investigates the geo-political background of the War in the western Lake Erie region to understand the critical role played by the Harrison Trail in the ultimate defeat of the British and their Indian allies in the southern Great Lakes.
The free public event will begin at 7:00 pm in the Fort Ball Room at the Seneca County Museum.
