Party in the Park - Celebrating Breastfeeding

Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital Lactation Services, in collaboration with Seneca County WIC department, are pleased to invite local families to celebrate breastfeeding with them at Hedges-Boyer Park on Sunday, August 18th from 1-3 pm. August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Each year, approximately 50% of infants born at Mercy Tiffin Hospital are breastfed. Any breastfeeding, whether it is a week, a month, or a year, is an achievement for both parents and their babies.

Infants who are breastfed have a lower risk of illnesses such as upper respiratory infections and ear infections. They are also at a lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Women who breastfeed their babies lower their risk of some female cancers and heart disease. The “manufacturing and packaging” of human milk is environmentally friendly and can save families and communities thousands of dollars.

The August 18 event will feature a photographer who is offering free photos for breastfeeding families. All breastfeeding parents who pre-registered prior to August 6th will receive a free t-shirt. There will be extra t-shirts for non-registered guests based on size availability. Free lunch, door prizes, and a children’s activity corner will also be provided.
