To everyone traveling to return to Tiffin this weekend, and to those who support Heidelberg from just around the corner, happy Alumni Weekend! In honor of the weekend, I wanted to visit two nearby favorites for current students and alumni.
Bailiwicks Coffee Company is a frequent supporter of Heidelberg University and student groups from Heidelberg. They have been the object of many “Discover Days” hosted by the Berg Event Council, where students are able to make a purchase of up to $5 on BEC’s dime.
Simply Susan’s is one of my family’s favorite stores whenever they come to visit (usually for Downtown Tiffin’s annual Chocolate Walk.) I think Simply Susan’s is a great place to buy gifts for people my age. They have candy, number one; and number two, they sell cutesy things for anyone to enjoy.

Simply Susan’s is a boutique owned by Susan Wilkinson that sells apparel, accessories and decor. Near the back of their store, they also have a candy counter, selling their hand-dipped chocolates – including chocolate-covered strawberries and pretzels. They have regular hours, but the best way to see if they’re open is to check if their decorated blue bicycle is out front.
Simply Susan’s frequently participates in community and downtown events. They’re currently selling “Summer Stroll” tickets, and I’ve visited before to buy “Chocolate Walk” tickets from them (which is my go-to Mother’s Day present). Featured in the photo is their ongoing raffle to win Madison Street Tavern’s new bottled sauces. Their dedication to promoting other downtown businesses sets the bar high for other cities with other quaint, small downtowns.
My favorite thing about Simply Susan’s is that they are able to personalize several of their products in-store. I’m at the weird age where my friends are getting married and renting homes, and many of the store’s personalizable products make fun and affordable gifts for those couples in my life. They also offer gift wrapping, which takes one more thing off the checklist for those events.
